When Kelli visited last weekend, we had a beautiful weekend. Low 70s, some sunshine, slight breeze - amazing. Today, however, it’s overcast and in the low 40s. I’m very anxious to get things going in the garden, but because the weather is so unpredictable at this point, we run the risk of the frost killing the seeds if we go ahead and plant them. Solution? 2nd grade science project, i.e., plant flower seeds in an egg carton!

We only had one empty egg carton, so we “planted” 12 flowers: 4 Dahlias, 4 African Daisies, and 4 Zinnias. Once they start to sprout in the egg carton and the weather warms up, we’ll transplant them to the flower boxes!

Don’t they look nice? The boxes definitely needed a little bit of love. When we moved in they were practically hanging off of the fence. So we took em’ down, renailed them, and then prepped them for this lovely green color (from the discount mis-tinted bin at Lowe’s for $2. Gotta love it).

Now, Quinn and I are eager to get things growing in our little flower boxes and planters. It’s so much fun to tend to a plant and watch it grow from seed to fruit or vegetable or flower. We can definitely draw parallels from planting a garden to what it means to live in Christ. We are fruit on the Vine. He is the Vine dresser. He watches over us from seedling to full fruition, carefully and lovingly tending to us. How cool!
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. I John 15:1-6
